Sky Sports pundit slams embarrassing Everton defenders v Brentford in Premier League clash
Garry Birtles has slammed the Everton defenders for struggling to properly deal with a counter from a corner in the first half against Brentford.
Despite leading in the first half, the Toffees rode their luck on several occasions and nearly conceded a couple of goals at the very least.
Their defence was in tatters and Birtles, a Sky Sports pundit, was extremely critical of their defending after they had a corner which led to a counterattack and almost led to a Bees goal.
Speaking on the Premier League world feed, Birtles said, “Embarrassing defending. From their own corner. This cannot happen.”

Everton cannot go on defending like this as they will pay the price against better teams.
Had Brentford been more clinical here, it would have been a completely different situation, but they’re lucky that the attackers have not been at their best.
Lampard has to tell his defence to tighten up and get into the heads of James Tarkowski and Nathan Patterson who have struggled a great deal today.
We’re hoping that the Toffees come out as a different team in the second half.

Amadou Onana also needs to improve as he’s not done enough to protect this back three and they will pay the price if they do not sort this out.
