Ben Brereton Diaz waits for £12m Everton bid in final days of transfer window

Blackburn forward Ben Brereton Diaz is waiting on Everton to make a £12million bid for him in the final days of the summer transfer window, according to the Mail On Sunday.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on 28 August (page 145) that Blackburn want that figure in order to sell the 23-year-old Chile international, who’ll be available on a pre-contract basis in January to clubs outside of England due to his Ewood Park deal expiring next year.

It is understood that a move to Goodison Park is still on the cards for Brereton Diaz with the transfer window closing on Thursday (1 September) but the Stoke-born striker is waiting on Everton to match Blackburn’s £12million valuation.

Bargain

Everton are probably waiting this one out.

Blackburn know that they could lose one of their best players in a decade for nothing next year if they do not cash in on Brereton Diaz this summer.

That means the Blues could be waiting until the final hours of the summer transfer window so that Blackburn have no choice but to lower their demands for the Ewood Park goal machine.

For £12million, Brereton Diaz would be a bargain.

But there’s a chance we could get him cheaper.

Everton

While that’s a good tactic for a club that’s running a tight ship due to Financial Fair Play, it does leave us open to being hijacked by another club who are keen to take the ex-Nottingham Forest ace.

Brereton Diaz has been superb in the Championship at Blackburn.

He’s scored two goals and supplied one assist in six league appearances this season, playing mainly on the left-wing while last season he netted 22 times in 37 second-tier outings with most of his game-time coming up front as a striker.

Former Rovers boss Tony Mowbray once dubbed the Chilean an “extraordinary talent” for his technical ability [LancsLive] and we would love to see him make the move to Goodison.

Some good attackers have stepped up from the Championship to the Premier League in recent seasons including Jarrod Bowen, Ollie Watkins, Aleksandr Mitrovic and Jack Harrison.

Could Brereton Diaz be the next one as an Evertonian?

We hope so.
