Journalist shares what Everton sources are saying about Anthony Gordon’s future
Anthony Gordon has not been the subject of a new bid from Chelsea according to Everton sources, says 90min journalist Chris Smith.
The Toffees reportedly received a bid worth £50m plus a further £10m in add-ons last week from the London club with Gordon agreeing personal terms to leave, but Frank Lampard has since denied that the club ever received a bid worth that amount having already rejected two bids from them.
There were some reports from Football Insider that a new bid of £25m + Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja had gone in on Sunday morning, but Smith reported that his sources are denying a new bid has gone in.
“Sources on both [Everton] and [Chelsea] sides have denied the new reported bid that is circulating today,” he tweeted from his personal Twitter account [28 August,12:52].
Lampard has stated there is an internal deadline for the deal to happen, but the expectation remains that a deal will happen before Thursday’s window closure.
Dragging
This is a rare scenario where no matter what the outcome is Everton will likely win out, but only if they are able to give themselves enough time to use the money to replace him should he go.
Gordon isn’t worth anywhere near the amounts of money that are currently on the table for him and almost all the fans are well aware of it, but the money is pretty useless if it can’t be spent.

The team is unbelievably short on attacking quality and options, even with the summer arrivals of Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay from Burnley and Brighton respectively.
Goals and assists are needed, as seen from just three goals being scored so far this season and one of those being an own goal. The bid sounded way too good to be true anyway so it’s no surprise it’s not, but this saga needs an end one way or another as soon as possible.
