Everton ‘could push’ to make last-ditch Adama Traore signing

Everton may pursue a late summer deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Football Insider reported on 20 April that the Toffees had identified the Spaniard as an option for the summer while he was still out on loan at FC Barcelona last season.

But even though interest has seemingly cooled over the off-season for the rapid wing wizard, Phillips thinks Everton could return to Molineux to sign the 26-year-old before the 1 September deadline.

“Traore is a player that Chelsea have wanted for a long time and also under Lampard as well. I can imagine Lampard could push that one through,” Phillips said to Give Me Sport.

Everton have already made one signing from the Black Country club this summer having taken their club captain Conor Coady on loan with an option to buy after Bruno Lage opted to change formation, leaving the England international on the sidelines.

Unpredictable

The most exciting players to watch are ones who don’t really know what they are going to do when the ball comes to them and Traore is one of those, similarly to Allan Saint-Maximin at Newcastle.

The 26-year-old has such incredible speed and strength that he is almost impossible to get off the ball when he is at full flight and confident but he has always lacked an end product.

That comes as a surprise when you realise that he is a former Barca youth player but if he did have the finishing touch, he wouldn’t be at Wolves or on Everton’s radar, he’d be a world beater at the Nou Camp.

Frank Lampard could be the man who finally unlocks that ability to find the net or that final pass rather than see attacks breakdown if the late summer move is made.

There is no doubt that an unpredictable element is needed at Goodison Park if the club are to survive relegation this season.
