Everton make enquiry for Leeds United forward Daniel James – Fabrizio Romano
Everton have made an enquiry for Leeds United forward Daniel James as they eye a deadline-busting loan to buy deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Toffees are looking to bolster their front line before the end of the transfer window on Thursday night, having already added Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay to their ranks this summer.
Leeds are open to an exit for the Wales winger, but the final decision rests with the player and they are also happy to keep him. Tottenham also have an interest in the player and have been in talks.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, Romano said;
“Tottenham have discussed potential loan with buy option for Daniel James with Leeds last week — not an easy deal, also Everton asked for Dan.
“Situation remains open, it’s up to the player — Leeds would be happy to keep James.”
Pace
Everton have got plenty of pace in their current ranks in attack, but nobody comes close to the speed of James and he would be an interesting addition to the squad.
He is capable of playing on both wings or through the middle as a striker which would be a big help to Frank Lampard, but one issue would be his lack of consistent goal involvements since moving up to the Premier League.

It’s an issue that plagues the current attackers in the squad, with McNeil failing to register a single goal or assist in the Premier League for Burnley last season, while Anthony Gordon has five goals and two assists in his career too.
But James has got plenty of experience at the top level having played for Manchester United and is always a willing runner with great energy, something needed to be in Lampard’s side.
He’s a good age and a loan deal represents little risk, so if a deal can be done before the deadline it will only strengthen Everton’s chances of a good season, especially with Gordon now looking more likely to stay.
