Everton in the hunt to sign James Garner, player could leave in the next 48 hours

Everton are still interested in signing Manchester United youngster James Garner but they face strong competition from Southampton, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking to Wett Freunde on August 30, the Guardian journalist reported that United have rejected an offer from Southampton last weekend.

However, Garner is one player who could leave the club permanently. In fact, he is likely to depart in the next 24-48 hours, that is before the transfer windows slams shut.

Romano said to Wett Freunde: “And Garner could be a permanent deal. Because Southampton made an offer over the weekend but Man Utd declined. You rejected the first offer. But Everton are also interested.”

“In the next 24-48 hours, (James) Garner could be the next player to leave Man Utd.”

Get it done

The Daily Mail reported on 24 August that the Toffees are keen to sign the young talent, but United are demanding a hefty asking price.

David Ornstein wrote in his latest column for The Atheltic (30 August) that the Toffees could sign both Garner and Idrissa Gueye to strengthen their midfield.

It remains to be seen whether the Toffees can actually pull off a deal for either or both of them before the end of the window, as Southampton are trying hard to secure his signature.

Having said that it won’t be easy to lure Garner away from Old Trafford. It was reported by the Daily Mail that the Red Devils were demanding a fee of £14million plus add-ons for the 21-year-old.

On top of that, there is the fear of losing Anthony Gordon as well. The young talent is being targeted by Chelsea on a big-money deal. If he leaves, it could open up a wide range of options for Frank Lampard in the transfer market, although time could be a big factor here.
