Idrissa Gana Gueye says PSG goodbyes as Everton return nears

PSG midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye has said goodbye to his PSG teammates as the 32-year-old closes in on a return to Everton according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins.

L’Equipe revealed on Tuesday 30 August that the midfielder is set to fly to England to complete a move back to the Premier League on a two-year deal with the Toffees.

Hawkins has since reported (via his personal Twitter account, 30 August) that Gana Gueye has said his goodbyes at Camp des Loges and that his Everton arrival is imminent.

About time

This is a deal that has dragged on and on and it will be a big relief for Evertonians to see the club have finally sealed Gana Gueye’s return.

Frank Lampard has been desperate for some added depth in midfield and looks to have got his man with Gana Gueye an experienced campaigner on the continent and in the Premier League.

At 32, he is probably just edging past his best years, but his wealth of experience could do wonders for the likes of Anthony Gordon and Amadou Onana who are still in the early stages of their careers.

Everton

Onana in particular could learn a lot from the veteran midfielder, with the summer arrival operating in a very similar role to the Senegalese international.

Neal Maupay’s arrival has somewhat lessened Lampard’s need to add a striker to his group, but another attacking player would certainly not go a miss at Goodison Park.

If the Everton boss can add another striker to his group then he would have had a stressful but relatively successful window on the whole.
