The Evening Standard reported (29 August) that Chelsea have been looking into other targets, with Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha being a potential option.

Great news

This is amazing news for all Evertonians and the club deserve immense credit for not giving into the advances of Chelsea, with the big transfer fees that were reportedly being offered for Gordon.

The club hierarchy could have easily succumbed to the enormous offers that Chelsea were prepared to pay but there has been a realisation that Gordon’s value will only keep rising and that can happen whilst he is still wearing an Everton shirt.

Gordon also deserves praise for his conduct during the saga, with the 21-year-old continuing to perform at an extremely high level and making vital contributions on the pitch during the opening weeks of the season.

Everton

It is now time for the youngster to kick on and really focus on making Everton competitive in the Premier League once again.

It has been a slow start to the season but performances have certainly been there for the Toffees.

When Frank Lampard has Neal Maupay available and potentially another striker added to his ranks, Everton should easily steer clear of any trouble this season.

This is news that will certainly have Evertonians sleeping well tonight.
