Everton stance on Adnan Januzaj shared after Anthony Gordon transfer development
Everton won’t sign Adnan Januzaj this summer as Anthony Gordon will be staying at Goodison Park, according to reliable journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The Toffees had been linked with a move for the former Manchester United winger on a free transfer, with the idea being that he would replace Gordon should he leave for Chelsea as was expected.
But with Gordon now likely to stay and Chelsea turning their attentions to Wilfried Zaha instead, Januzaj is now on the verge of joining Sevilla on a four-year contract despite Frank Lampard validating the transfer earlier in the window according to Tavolieri [31 August].
Writing on his personal Twitter account, Tavolieri said; “Adnan Januazaj to Sevilla FC. Medical visit in the morning, finalising negotiations at the same time. Signature on a four-year contract in the afternoon. Januzaj waited for Everton, who never let go of Anthony Gordon to Chelsea.”
Then in a separate tweet, he provided extra information for Toffees fans about the collapse of the deal.
“Extra information for Everton fans on a deal that doesn’t happen because [Anthony Gordon] stays at [Everton]. Frank Lampard had validated the choice of Adnan Januzaj.”
Positive
Overall this all works out perfectly in Everton’s favour and fans will be delighted by the outcome of this saga that has dragged on for weeks now.
Gordon sticking around without doubt makes the squad stronger and keeps that connection with the fan base, although many admitted that a £60m offer would be impossible to turn down for someone with such little experience.

But it’s positive to see that the club is still attractive enough to convince players like Januzaj to sign and that plans were being made just in case he did leave, rather than leaving Everton in a position of vulnerability.
The fact Januzaj is now going elsewhere shows that Everton must be very confident of keeping Gordon at the club in the final 48 hours of the window, so now all eyes can turn to strengthening the squad rather than worrying about it being taken apart.
All in all it’s been a good window for the club, and it can still get better in the final days with more incomings expected.
