Fabrizio Romano: James Garner passes Everton medical ahead of £15m transfer from Manchester United
Manchester United midfielder James Garner has passed a medical at Everton ahead of a £15million move to Goodison Park, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Guardian journalist reported via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday (31 August) that the Blues have fully agreed terms with the 21-year-old ace while Man United have worked a buy-back clause into their agreement with the Merseyside club.
It is understood that Garner is now minutes away from being signed formally as an Everton player on a contract that runs to June 2027.
What a signing
Once the transfer window closes, Everton will have signed quite a lot of players and when we look back at the business Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell have done, this should be rated as one of the best.
While the Man United buy-back clause isn’t great, Birkenhead-born Garner is a steal for £15million considering how well he’d done on loan at Nottingham Forest, the fact he’s homegrown and the fact he should add a lot of quality to our midfield and to our set-pieces.
Garner is a mean crosser of the ball and once Dominic Calvert-Lewin is fit, we’d expect the England striker to relish playing when Garner is standing over a set-piece opportunity.
It’s just a matter of time before he’s officially an Evertonian now but what next for Lampard?

He’s done a lot of recruitment to his midfield this summer and it looks as though Idrissa Gueye is also joining up with the Toffees to further bolster the central options.
But we already have a lot of central midfielders.
Someone will have to leave and we would be a bit perplexed if players like Andre Gomes and Tom Davies were still on the books at Goodison Park come 11:01pm on Thursday (1 September).
