Idrissa Gueye watched every Everton game last season and remained in contact as he closes in on move

Idrissa Gueye watched every Everton match last season and remained in contact with the club ahead of his return from Paris Saint-Germain, according to Sky Sports News journalist Melissa Reddy.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Transfer Show on Wednesday (31 August, 05:00pm), Reddy reported that Gueye, 32, always hoped to make a return to Goodison Park.

Sky Sports’ Alan Myers has reported that Gueye is already on Merseyside and was due to undergo a medical with the Toffees on Wednesday morning.

True Blue

Gueye loves Everton, clearly.

While PSG were winning the Ligue 1 title and competing for the Champions League, it’s comforting to know that Gueye was spending his downtime watching Salomon Rondon play as a striker for Rafa Benitez.

It remains to be seen what role Gueye will play at Goodison Park with Frank Lampard already signing Amadou Onana this summer from Lille for a lot of money.

He’s also set to sign Manchester United’s England Under-21 international James Garner with the midfielder joining for £15million [Fabrizio Romano].

They’ve joined a midfield that’s already packed with players who play similar deep roles like Andre Gomes and Allan so it’ll be interesting to see whether one or both of those left Goodison before the deadline passes.

There’s also Tom Davies and Abdoulaye Doucoure so Lampard surely has some irons in the fire when it comes to outgoings.

Everton’s Financial Fair Play situation is well-documented so it will be bizarre for them to continue the season with a huge surplus of players who are bound to be earning a fair whack each week.
