Sky Sports pundit reacts as Everton decide to keep Anthony Gordon from Chelsea move
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
The transfer deadline has come too soon for Chelsea to take Anthony Gordon from Everton but the player will be better for it says Kevin Campbell.
Todd Boehly has already bid as high as £60million for the Toffees winger but after Frank Lampard declared the move over following the 1-1 draw at Leeds on Tuesday (30 August) the club have moved to back the manager on Wednesday and informed the Stamford Bridge side a deal is off the table.
Sky Sports pundit Campbell believes that with so much money flying around there would remain a chance that the 21-year-old moves to the capital as long as the window was open, but as the de facto main man at Everton right now he is better off staying where he is.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he said: “I think with the last couple of games, how they’ve gone, Anthony Gordon has come up trumps hasn’t he?
“I think if there was a lot more time in the window you never know, because it’s a lot of money, but I don’t think it allows Frank Lampard to do much moving and shaking in the transfer window.
“Transfer window closes tomorrow, so I think it’s probably the right thing for the player and the club.
“Probably the right thing for the player to keep playing, because there’s no guarantee if he went to Chelsea he’d play.
“He’s at his boyhood club, he’s going to learn his trade, and he’s going to be better for it.”

With a second goal in as many games for the Toffees the home grown star has shown great focus and commitment to the team, despite apparently expressing an interest in the move behind the scenes.
The fee got so high that in the club’s current situation it would have been fairly beneficial either way if there was time to properly stock up with replacements, but a scramble to spend £60million or more in the last two days makes less sense.
Chelsea’s second away defeat in succession at Southampton may have strengthened their desire to land Gordon, but the decision looks to have been made at Goodison and the local hero will remain just that.
