Everton could let Salomon Rondon leave before transfer deadline

Everton could allow Salomon Rondon to leave Goodison Park before tonight’s transfer deadline, according to a report by Ryan Taylor.

The Toffees have added Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay to their attack this summer, while they were also able to keep Anthony Gordon in the midst of interest from Chelsea.

But despite an injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Maupay not being able to make his debut yet, Frank Lampard has opted to leave Rondon on the bench for the majority of games instead of playing him as the striker in his team.

This has opened the door to the Venezuelan leaving Goodison Park before tonight’s deadline, with the club pursuing another striker themselves after having a major bid rejected for Joao Pedro.

“João Pedro is staying at Watford & has confirmed his decision to the Vicarage Road board after Everton made an offer for the Brazilian in midweek following collapse of Newcastle deal,” he said on his personal Twitter account.

“Toffees now exploring alternative options & Salomón Rondón could depart before deadline.”

Bye

Everton still need attackers, but there is an argument that they wouldn’t be weakened by allowing Rondon to leave the club.

At 32-years-old, turning 33 in two weeks, Rondon is no spring chicken and the room for improvement is minimal. That makes his record at the club laughable and there is no sign of it getting any better.

Calvert-Lewin and Maupay make up the striker options and Gordon has now shown that he is capable of filling in as a third-choice number nine if necessary, as has Demarai Gray.

Rondon’s style is simply the opposite of the way Frank Lampard wants to play and he takes up squad space and wages that could be put to better use elsewhere.

It was a Benitez signing that didn’t work out, and now we can move him on in the next few hours to wave goodbye to that era forever if everything goes to plan.
