Everton table £30m bid for Watford ace Joao Pedro, club respond – Fabrizio Romano
Everton have tabled a bid worth £30m for Watford forward Joao Pedro in the last 24 hours, but have seen it rejected according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Toffees had revived their interest in the Championship forward in recent days, after the Brazilian saw his move to Newcastle collapse earlier in the window.
According to a tweet by Romano on his personal Twitter account, Everton made a bid worth £25m plus a further £5m in add-ons for the 20-year old but Watofrd rejected the offer and have no intention of letting him leave before Thursday’s deadline.
Massive
Everton have waited until the end of the window to really come alive and it looks like it could be costing them now.
Pedro is a brilliant talent and the bid of £25m plus £5m in add-ons is the exact deal that Newcastle offered and reportedly had accepted, before they changed their mind and signed Aleksandar Isak instead.
Had the Toffees made their move earlier in the window it likely would have got done because Watford would have had time to find a replacement, and if the money was there the whole time then the question remains as to why they didn’t move earlier.
Neal Maupay and Dwight McNeil have come in to bolster the side, while they have been able to fend off interest from Chelsea for Anthony Gordon too.
But as the first five games have shown they need more in that area of the pitch and Pedro would have been a great addition.
With the deal now dead in the water, Everton must move on to other targets seemingly and with even less time to get a deal done it will be incredibly hard for them to get in the man they want to aid Frank Lampard’s side this season.
