Telegraph journalist shares Ben Brereton Diaz transfer update after £12m Everton bid
Everton and Fulham target Ben Brereton Diaz is reportedly set to stay at Blackburn Rovers beyond the 11pm deadline on transfer deadline day.
According to Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath, the Toffees made a £12million bid for the Chile international but it has been turned down.
Even Fulham made a similar bid, but Rovers want £20million and are unwilling to deal for a price lower than that.
Via Twitter, McGrath wrote, “Blackburn #Rovers striker Ben Brereton-Diaz likely to stay at club beyond the deadline as £20million asking price hasn’t been met (3hrs left of window). #FulhamFC and #EvertonFC bids of £12million. Set to consider pre-contract offers in January.”
Missed chance
The Chilean would’ve strengthened the Everton attack more than Neal Maupay and they should have chalked out the remainder of the funds for Diaz.
If not that much, they could’ve found a middle ground with Blackburn as they’re set to lose Diaz on a free next summer.
He does not seem keen to stay at Ewood Park and this is a bad financial move from Blackburn as well as they will miss out on a multi-million windfall.
This should not mean that they do not pursue a move for another attacker before the transfer deadline.
There is still time left and it’s pretty clear that they have the money to get deals over the line so they must at least try.
Defence and midfield does seem to be sorted but the main weakness is in the final third and if they fail to sign a game changer in attack, it could be another relegation threatened season.
