Everton confirm starting XI for Premier League clash v Liverpool
Everton have confirmed their starting XI for the first Merseyside Derby of the 2022-23 season against Liverpool.
The Toffees are coming in this Premier League matchday six fixture off the back of three consecutive draws and are still looking for their first win this season.
Announced on Twitter, Everton named a strong starting XI that features newly-signed striker Neal Maupay, with veteran midfielder Idrissa Gueye starting on the bench.
Big match
Everton had a poor start to their season where they are still winless but they’ve registered three draws in their last three matches against Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Leeds United.
One of the positive things for the Toffees is that two out of those three draws came away from home which definitely would give Frank Lampard and his players much-needed belief ahead of the all-important clash.
Also, Maupay’s availability will also give the Merseyside club fans something to be excited about as the former Brighton striker missed the team’s last match against Leeds as the Premier League did not register him because of public holidays.
However, Everton’s home record against the Reds does not present a pretty picture for the fans as they’ve not defeated their Saturday opponent at Goodison Park in more than a decade.
Lampard will be hoping that today is the lucky day when his players will turn up and surprise one of the title contenders this season.
