Michael Owen gushes over Frank Lampard during Everton v Liverpool

Michael Owen was full of praise for Frank Lampard at half-time as his Everton side completely took the game to Liverpool.

While the Premier League clash between the two arch rivals ended 0-0, it was not short on entertainment and the Toffees looked to be winning it.

However, Conor Coady’s second half striker was disallowed for an offside call that was not even visible to the naked eye.

Speaking to Premier League productions (3 September, 1:17pm), Owen said, “I’d rather be Frank Lampard than Jurgen Klopp at the break. His team have dominated. They’ve really been the better team and barring those two chances, Liverpool have struggled.”

Deserved the win

Lampard has been getting plenty of slack recently but he deserved to win his first Merseyside derby.

Everything was in place for the Toffees to secure the three points as the team was setup perfectly with everyone giving their 100 per cent.

No player looked like he did not know what was expected from him and for the first time in months, we saw a cohesive Everton team both on and off the ball.

The disallowed goal was shocking and we’re surprised at how many farcical decisions VAR has been making over the past few weeks.

Mike Parry was absolutely fuming when the footage showed that there was nothing in the decision and according to their own guidelines, the goal should have stood.

However, Lampard showed that he’s ready to make this team a proper side again that can fight for a top-half finish in the Premier League.
