Andy Gray: Everton can take an awful lot from Merseyside Derby draw v Liverpool
Andy Gray was full of praise for Frank Lampard and Everton after their Merseyside Derby draw against Liverpool at Goodison Park.
The Toffees held their bitter rivals to a 0-0 draw which means Lampard’s side are unbeaten in four Premier League matches.
Despite not picking up their first win of the season, Gray admits he was wrong to be fearful of the game against the Reds due to how well the Blues played.
Talking on BeIN Sports on Saturday 3 September, Gray said: “That was a much better performance.
“I was worried before it because if the real Liverpool turned up, we might be in trouble but that was a much better performance.
“I comfortable in the game, I didn’t feel anxious, I felt we could score a few times and I felt we could concede a few times as well.
“He can take an awful lot from the game and drive into the next few games, certainly before the break.
Win is coming
Despite not picking up a win so far this season, most Evertonians will be happy with the start that Lampard’s side has made to the 2022/23 campaign.
For any side to be successful, it’s crucial to have a dependable and solid defence and Everton hold one of the better defensive records outside the top-six of the Premier League with only six goals conceded.
In time, the attacking side of the game will begin to click for Lampard as he looks to really kickstart the Toffees’ season.
Liverpool have been far from their best so far but they still hold world-class quality all over the pitch and will finish towards the top end of the league come May.

Regardless of their poor form, this result should be looked at positively by Evertonians with a lot of good performances.
Lampard will be encouraged by the start the Amadou Onana has made in an Everton shirt after his summer move from Lille.
The 20-year-old has adapted well and was a stand-out performer in the centre of the park against Klopp’s side.
Jordan Pickford was also immense with Match of the Day pundit Jermaine Jenas in awe of his late save to deny Liverpool all three points.
A first win feels as if it’s around the corner.
