Alan Shearer picks Everton duo Jordan Pickford and Nathan Patterson in Premier League team of the week

Alan Shearer has selected Everton duo Jordan Pickford and Nathan Patterson in his Premier League team of the week after the draw against Liverpool.

The Toffees drew 0-0 with Liverpool at Goodison Park in a highly entertaining game, finding themselves on the end of some controversial referee decisions that may have cost them the win on the day.

But Shearer was most impressed by the defensive duo of Patterson and Pickford in blue, praising their performances on the official Premier League team of the week.

“He made several superb saves to frustrate Liverpool,” he said justifying his inclusion of Pickford, while he also hailed the “immense” Patterson.

“Immense all game in everything he did, both when defending and going forward.”

It’s great to see the duo getting their rightful praise in the media for their performances, because both have been huge to Everton this season.

Pickford has been vocal and become a leader, taking the armband in the absence of Seamus Coleman while Patterson has really excelled.

Considering he was overlooked by Lampard a lot last season and featured for just 45 minutes under him in the cup, he’s come into the first-team this season and looks undroppable right now with his energy and aggression at both ends of the pitch.

He’s a fearless young defender and offers a threat going forward too, while the boss can rely on him to do his job defensively and get back in position quickly on transition.

It’s been a decent start to the season despite being winless so far, and both Pickford and Patterson deserve all the praise coming their way after the weekend point.
