Everton move not off the cards for former Frank Lampard assistant Jody Morris

Jody Morris has been out of a job since he and Frank Lampard were sacked by Chelsea but he has not ruled out re-joining him at Everton.

The 43-year-old has been Lampard’s number two at both Derby County and Stamford Bridge but he chose not to follow him to Goodison Park when he was appointed in January.

Morris had been pursuing his own managerial career but he has not yet found the right move for him at any level and has therefore not ruled out the possibility of reuniting with the former England international.

“If I have an opportunity to work with another manager or another coach at another club, it’s certainly something I’d be open to,” he said to The Mirror. “But right now I’m hoping I maybe get an opportunity from a management perspective

“Still sitting here fingers crossed hoping that it won’t be too long now, but it’s definitely something I want to do.”

Every little helps

Joe Edwards and Ashley Cole are already alongside Lampard in the Everton think tank but another mind on the matter is never a bad thing.

Morris is likely to spot something slightly different from the other three and it could prove to be the key element that gives the Toffees the edge in one particular game or even the entire season.

He wouldn’t have spent so long at Chelsea had he not been an exceptional coach and tactician who could certainly be a proper manager wherever he wants to be.

So if Lampard can twist his arm and convince him to make the move to Merseyside then Everton can expect to find themselves much higher in the Premier League table as a result.

The assistant managers and coaches are often the mastermind behind a lot of what happens at a football club as the manager himself deals with putting out developing fires and facing the media.
