Sky Sports pundit buoyed by Dele Alli start in ‘tough’ Turkish league on Everton loan

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Dele Alli will realise that the Turkish Super Lig is a tough place to play as he looks to get his “mojo” back on loan from Everton says Kevin Campbell.

The English midfielder has won the two games he has played in for Besiktas so far and scored his first goal for nearly a year when he netted the second in a 3-2 win over Ankaragucu, to suggest that he is already seeing an upturn in his fortunes after a difficult period at Goodison Park.

Sky Sports pundit Campbell feels that there is an outside chance that the loan move ends in a renewed player returning to Everton in the future, but wishes him well on his quest to regain something close to his previous level either way.

On whether there is a chance Dele returns a changed player he exclusively said to Goodison News: “Yeah I think maybe. I wouldn’t quite say [he needs to] get his love back for the game, but get his mojo back, play some games and get that feeling where he’s going to start and he’s scoring goals.

“He just needs that feeling back of, ‘I’m the guy. I can do it.’ You know, that confidence of knowing that he can do it.

“He’s got all the ability. We know he’s got the ability. But the key is sometimes he’s lost his way and he just needs to find the right path again.

“I tell you what he will realise. Going to Turkey, it’s a tough league as well. He’s with one of the top sides but it’s not easy. It’s not an easy league to play in.

“But hopefully he’ll find his feet and it’s good to hear that he scored and he’s doing okay. I wish him well.”

It would likely take a funding shortfall at Besiktas or a season that sees him regain his confidence while not quite making himself indispensable at the club that sees him return to the Toffees.

Whether that happens or not it is encouraging that his start in Turkey appears to be going better than the same period after arriving on Merseyside.

If he can return to form it will feel like a missed opportunity for Frank Lampard, but in what turned out to be a stressful campaign all round where the club’s top flight status was in serious jeopardy it was likely never the right situation for Dele to kick-start his career after the downturn at Tottenham.
