Jamie Carragher blown away by Nathan Patterson in Everton Premier League clash v West Ham
Jamie Carragher has waxed lyrical over Everton defender Nathan Patterson for his performance against West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Toffees won the game 1-0 and climbed up the table – further away from the dreaded relegation zone.
The defence had a good contest, and Patterson, who has been Frank Lampard’s first-choice right-back this season, had another impressive performance.
After his impressive tackle to win the ball from Maxwel Cornet, Carragher said on Sky Sports, “It’s Patterson coming across, he puts the challenge in to put Cornet off.
“He gets a touch and it’s brilliant from Patterson.”
Patterson took a while to get going at Everton but now he seems acquainted with life in the Premier League and he’s doing an exceptional job.
Calls to drop Seamus Coleman have been heard for a while but there never was anyone good enough to come in and replace him at right-back.
Given his popularity in the dressing room and the constant managerial overhaul, nobody really felt that they could keep him out of the side for a long time.
However, it seems like Lampard has decided that Patterson is the guy he’s going to bank on despite the fact that he did not bring the Scotland international to the club.
Patterson did have an injury lay-off in the middle that kept him out for a while but he’s playing some exceptional football both as a full-back and as a wing-back.
He’s not just good going forward but is well aware of his defensive duties and always tracks back and puts his body on the line defensively.
