Asmir Begovic suggests goals will definitely come for Everton

Asmir Begovic has suggested that defensive solidity is spreading confidence throughout the Everton team.

The Toffees goalkeeper has suggested that goals will come for the club after they picked up a 1-0 win against West Ham last week.

Begovic is expected to feature in more games following the injury to Jordan Pickford.

“It’s a commitment to it [defending] and understanding that’s a great base to play from,” Begovic said to Everton Tv, as relayed by the official website.

“If we’re solid defensively and have a good structure, then that gives us a little bit more possession and the chance to win games, because we have quality up the pitch.

“Those goals will come more and more – 100 per cent – and if we can keep the back door shut that will give us the chance to win most games.”

Positive

After a stuttering start to the season, the Toffees are in a much better position as they head into the international break.

They are undefeated in their last five games in the Premier League, and have just picked up their first win of the season after beating the Hammers.

Under Frank Lampard, the Toffees have done relatively well at home. However, this is the time Lampard needs to improve his away record.

The club need to win games away from home as well, and that will be a true sign of development.

The attacking department has been bolstered this summer, and Begovic is confident that goals will come.

Neal Maupay scored his first goal for the club, and he is one of the newcomers who made a big impression.

The squad will get better when Dominic Calvert-Lewin will return to action.

However, the key here is defensive solidity. The Toffees now have a strong midfield and defensive set-up that will help the club win more matches this season.
