Richard Keys delivers scathing verdict on Rafael Benitez comments on Everton tenure

Richard Keys has offered a scathing response to Rafael Benitez’s latest comments on his disappointing spell as Everton manager.

The former Liverpool boss was the Toffees’ shortest serving manager and failed to make a positive impact whilst in the hot seat at Goodison Park last season.

Outspoken BeIN Sports host Keys pulled no punches when reacting to Benitez’s latest interview.

Keys wrote on Twitter (20 September): “The gall of the man. How dare he? I hope he’s given his settlement figure back to Everton now he’s realised what we all told him & Moshiri.

“My friends at Leicester tell me Benitez has applied for that job. Is there a vacancy?”

Time to forget

Everton fans will be delighted to have Frank Lampard in charge of the club considering the dire straights the Toffees found themselves in when Benitez was in the hot seat at Goodison Park.

The decision to even consider Benitez for the job was a perplexing one to begin with anyway and for the Spaniard to then find himself in the dugout was truly remarkable.

His Liverpool background always meant that it was going to be a struggle for Benitez and it’s a route the Toffees should never go down again.

It’s fair to say that his interview with Football Daily (20 September) has not gone down well with journalist Richard Buxton also responding negatively to his comments on his time at Goodison Park.

Quite why the Spaniard has decided to open up on his time at Everton is hard to understand. Benitez should really be looking to make his horrendous stint at Everton a distant memory.

Things are certainly looking more positive on Merseyside now.
