Everton cannot drop Nathan Patterson as tackle success rate stat emerges

Perhaps the most surprising player of the season so far for Everton has been right-back Nathan Patterson after his January move from Rangers.

The 20-year-old hardly featured for the Toffees last season having been one of Rafael Benitez’s last signings at Goodison Park with injuries playing their part but he has been rejuvenated this campaign.

And that is proven in the latest statistic revealed by the popular football analytics website WhoScored.com which keeps track of pretty much every possible fact you could think of.

Via their official Twitter account, they revealed that Patterson has the highest tackle success rate of anybody in the entire Premier League to have attempted 20 or more challenges, standing at 82.4 per cent.

That would be mightily impressive for anybody in world football but this is a 20-year-old youngster who is in his first proper season of being a regular starter.

Even at Rangers, he was behind club captain James Tavernier in the pecking order which made more than a few eyebrows raise when Everton splashed £16million on him in January.

But that fee is being backed up right now with Patterson looking unbeatable no matter the wing that tries to take him on.

Frank Lampard has now been cornered into a very good position where he simply can not drop the Scottish international for Premier League games because he is performing to exceptional levels.

There is obvious scope to rest him for Carabao Cup ventures but Lampard may fancy his chances to take Everton far in that competition which could see him forced to carry on playing.

Seamus Coleman can now leave Goodison Park after arguably a touch too long now his replacement has finally been found but Evertonians might not notice the way Patterson is going.

He has to be the first name on the teamsheet every game from now on.
