Sublime stat shows Everton were right to sign James Tarkowski from Burnley this summer

James Tarkowski has had a bright start to life at Everton since moving to Goodison Park and has a mouthwatering stat to show for it.

Tarkowski has formed a beautiful partnership at the back with fellow Toffees new boy Conor Coady and is reaping the rewards of consistent playing time.

It comes as no surprise that the Premier League veteran is putting in good numbers for Frank Lampard’s side but he’s currently Europe’s best in one statistic.

Football’s largest detailed football statistics website WhoScored, have had its say on Tarkowski, providing Blues with a savory stat they can eat over the international break.

“James Tarkowski has blocked more shots per game (2.1) than any other player in Europe’s top 5 leagues this season. Putting his body on the line for Everton.”

Scintillating stuff from the new boy, the most blocked shots in Europe’s top 5 leagues? We’ll take it.

Fierce.

Tarkowski is everything you want your centre-back to be; fierce, mean and has a footballing brain to match, it’s a shame Everton didn’t make a move for him earlier.

Nevertheless, Lampard and the Blues now have a consistent and effective centre-back partnership on their hands which is working wonders for the team’s all-around performance.

There’s a feeling around Goodison Park that Everton have struck gold with Tarkowski, he’s settled into life on Merseyside with far too much ease.

Imperious form from the defender and it’s going to be interesting to see how far Tarkowski’s talents at the back can guide the Blues up the table.

Putting his body on the line for the club is all Toffees ask of their players and the 29-year-old has more than proved this so far this season.

Everton conceded 66 times last season, so the fact they’ve already mended their defence bodes well for the future, now Lampard needs attacking reinforcements to take the club to that next level.
