Everton: Manchester United among clubs monitoring Jordan Pickford as they consider David De Gea future

Manchester United are among the clubs monitoring Jordan Pickford’s Everton situation as they weigh up David De Gea’s future according to The Telegraph.

It’s understood that United are currently assessing their long-term options with De Gea’s current contract ending in the summer of 2023.

The Telegraph suggest (24 September) that a change of plan could bring Pickford into the frame at Old Trafford.

The England international’s current deal comes to a close in the summer of 2024 and it’s understood that a number of clubs are monitoring his situation.

Sort it early

This is a worry for Evertonians, particularly with the form that Pickford has displayed in the early part of this season for Frank Lampard’s side. He has silenced a number of critics and has been influential in Everton’s rock-solid start to the Premier League season.

This situation needs to be rectified early and before his current deal enters its final year. Pickford is vital at Goodison Park and getting him tied down to a new and improved contract is a must for Kevin Thelwell and Lampard.

Lampard has previously stated (20 August) that contract negotiations are underway with Pickford as the club attempts to extend his stay.

It’s hard to make a prediction on what Pickford’s ambitions are, with Manchester United sometimes a hard opportunity for players to turn down, regardless of their current state.

If Pickford doesn’t sign a new deal then Everton must begin their search for a new long-term goalkeeper in earnest, potentially even looking to delve into the market in January.
