Gareth Southgate makes Everton defender Conor Coady decision ahead of England clash v Germany

Gareth Southgate has reportedly axed five players from his England squad for the game against Germany but Everton ace Conor Coady makes the cut.

According to the Times, Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and AC Milan ace Fikayo Tomori will not be there in the squad for the game.

However, Sempre Milan journalist Maxi Angelo claims that Coady has not been dropped by the Three Lions manager.

He wrote on Twitter, “Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fikayo Tomori left of of England’s squad against Germany tonight by Gareth Southgate. Harry Maguire, Eric Dier, Conor Coady and Luke Shaw still in the squad.

“The favouritism has never been more obvious.”

Right call?

We think that selecting Coady is the right decision as he’s imperious in a back three and brings much-needed authority to the side.

Even in the recent game against West Ham, the on-loan Wolves defender proved how good he can be in a four-man defence as well – giving Southgate plenty to think about.

Alexander-Arnold has been creative for Liverpool and would give England something different but he has been dropped without really being given a chance.

Hopefully, Southgate’s tactics don’t make Coady look like a bad player as he’s far from it and he could do with his confidence not taking any further hits as it could affect his performances for Everton.

The reason he moved to Goodison Park this summer was to make the World Cup and he does seem to be getting his wish as he has made the cut and the Three Lions boss is unlikely to make radical changes after this.
