Conor Coady sees Everton move as best chance to make World Cup squad

Wolves defender Conor Coady reportedly sees a move to Everton as the best chance for him to make the World Cup squad this year.

According to former BBC journalist Fraser Fletcher, the 29-year-old believes in the project at Goodison Park under Kevin Thelwell and Frank Lampard.

He is set to move to Everton on a season-long loan with an option to buy and has already begun signing autographs for the Toffees fans.

Via Twitter, Fletcher wrote, “More on Connor Coady move to Everton. Wants to play under Lampard. Happy to be closer to home. Still has eyes on World Cup and sees Everton as best chance. He and other players believe in project under current management.”

Makes sense

Wolves decided to move to a four-man defence – rendering Coady’s services useless there – which saw him being relegated to the bench.

A 29-year-old, who’s arguably in the peak of his career, certainly would not want a bit-part role there.

Despite being the captain, manager Bruno Lage decided that he’s not an ideal fit and he would be exceptional for Lampard’s system.

The Blues boss has played a back three on several occasions and there appears to be a feeling that it will be his go-to system this season.

They made a number of defensive errors last season and having a calming yet authoritative voice in the middle of their back line will be effective.

His leadership will also be vital inside the dressing room and we back him to be a resounding success at Goodison Park.
