Sacha Tavolieri sings praises of Everton ace Amadou Onana for performance in Belgium v Netherlands
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri couldn’t help but sing the praises of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana for his performance for Belgium against Netherlands.
Onana has started the season in terrific form for the Toffees and has helped them to an undefeated run of six games since joining, and earned a start for his national team in their UEFA Nations League clash on Sunday night.
Despite the Red Devils’ 1-0 defeat on the night, his performance caught the eye of Tavolieri who was quick to praise him on his personal Twitter account during the game.
“Amadou Onana in the middle, it’s a treat,” he said. “What a breath of fresh air.”
Onana played 75 minutes as part of a double pivot in Belgium’s 3-4-3 formation, something Frank Lampard has used at Goodison Park since his arrival before he was replaced by Youri Tielemans.
Talent
Onana’s signing in the summer was seen as an immediate step forward for Everton because of the quality he possesses, despite the fact he had limited top flight experience.
It was a gamble certainly, but physically he is a machine and technically he has all the qualities to be a top talent across the continent and he’s now beginning to earn his stripes at international level.

With Roberto Martinez using a similar system to the one that Everton are opting for currently, he is likely to do himself no harm if he keeps up this form going forward and will be surrounded by even more quality for Belgium.
With Kevin De Bruyne, Youri Tielemans, Axel Witsel, Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard as teammates he is going to learn and get better, making it a scary sight for other Premier League teams that have to come up against him.
It’s great to hear that he’s excelling while away from Goodison Park and we’re going to be the ones to benefit from it the most. Money well spent.
