Everton boss Frank Lampard in contention for England job if Gareth Southgate is sacked
Frank Lampard is a contender for the England job with the Everton manager seen as a long-term target by the FA, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper reported via their print edition on Tuesday (27 September, page 77) that there are “nine contenders” to replace Southgate if the Three Lions manager gets sacked any time soon.
Pep Guardiola, Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Steve Cooper, Steven Gerrard, Eddie Howe and Scott Parker join Lampard in the list of names who could be the next manager of England.

Speaking about Lampard, the Mail says: “Proving a very good appointment by Everton and is on England’s radar for the longer term.”
Hands off
Although Lampard hasn’t exactly dragged us from the depths of hell, he has got Everton moving in the right direction and winning survival last season was massive.
He’s really bought into the club and the fans love him as a manager.
Even if we do finish 15th or something this season, that would be an improvement and there won’t be shouts for Lampard to go because there’s a lot of understanding and sympathy towards the ex-England midfielder in his role at Goodison Park.
We want stability and that’s what we could have under Lampard, even if progress is slow.

Financial Fair Play is going to hinder his first couple of years at the helm on Merseyside but that would be the case for any manager so we’re happy for this to pan out at the pace it needs to pan out at.
As for England, we hope they don’t come in because that would be a head-turning proposition for the former Derby and Chelsea manager.
In our opinion, Southgate should probably go after this World Cup unless he manages to surpass expectations and go on a good run to at least the quarter-finals (provided we’re only knocked out by a true heavyweight).
Southgate’s performance in the Nations League has been abysmal and although England did well to draw 3-3 against Germany on Monday night (26 September), failing to win a single game in a group containing Hungary is unacceptable.
After the World Cup, Cooper would be a good shout among the Englishmen on the list. Guardiola would obviously be the dream.
