Danny Mills: Everton defender Conor Coady is next in line to start for Gareth Southgate’s England
Danny Mills believes Everton defender Conor Coady is next in line to start for Gareth Southgate’s England side after another disastrous performance from Harry Maguire at centre-back.
Coady has been in terrific form for Everton this season, after making a season-long loan switch from Wolves this summer.
Mills admitted he believes Coady is next on the list because he’s a “solid” and “steady” pro and already has England caps under his belt.

Speaking to TalkSport, Mills claimed that he thinks Coady is next on the list for Southgate to come in and do a job at the back for England.
“I think Coady’s next on the list because Coady you know what you’re going to get,” said Mills.
“He’s got a few caps, he’s solid, he’s steady, he’s a good lad, he’s a good pro, he’s not going to cause issues if he’s not in the team.”
Mills right.
Mills is completely right on this one, Coady should be starting for England given Maguire’s horrific form and deserves his chance to prove his worth to the team.
The Everton centre-back can be trusted to do the dirty work for the team and isn’t likely to crack under the pressure that can come with playing in a FIFA World Cup.
It’s impossible for Southgate to back Maguire for a starting spot after his performance against Germany on Monday evening; there’s never been a better time for Coady to sure things up.
Coady has been colossal for Everton this campaign; didn’t Southgate once say he chooses his squad solely based on form? his tune has changed massively.
England can reap the benefits of the defender’s solid form and he can take away the World Cup nerves with his calm, solid and professional nature.
It’s a big call for Southgate to make but it’s one he needs to do.
