Everton forward Anthony Gordon opens up on high-profile bids from Chelsea

Everton forward Anthony Gordon has opened up for the first time about nearly leaving Goodison Park this summer after Chelsea made countless bids for him.

Gordon shot to fame in Frank Lampard’s ranks last season, helping the Toffees to Premier League survival and gained many plaudits for his never say die style of play.

The winger admitted that the bids from Chelsea were “absolutely crazy”, claiming that he doesn’t think any player is worth that kind of money.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, the Everton forward was happy to chat about the summer interest from Chelsea, something that has done little to bother him from his work at Goodison.

“That’s football nowadays – it’s absolutely crazy,” said Gordon.

“Personally, I don’t think any player is worth that amount of money but I’m also not going to talk myself down. The money in football, that’s just how it is nowadays. You’re also paying for potential all the time these days. That’s just how football goes.

“I wasn’t too focused on that because I can only control what I can control. I think the minute you do that (thinking he is a £60million player), there’s only one way you’re going to go.

“You need to stay humble. You need to focus on today and tomorrow and don’t look too far into the future.

“But because the place (Everton) is so good, it’s not a place where I’m devastated because I have to stay. That’s never been the case. I was never desperate to leave Everton. It was definitely not the case.”

Bodes well.

Gordon’s comments bode well for his Everton future, the forward seems happy on Merseyside and his comments suggest he has little will to leave just yet.

The allure of London and Stamford Bridge can be a tough proposition to ignore and whilst Chelsea may attempt to sign Gordon again, the youngster seems unfazed.

Gordon has had a decent start to the season for Lampard’s rejuvenated Toffees setup and can be a focal point of everything good the team achieves moving forward.

Hopefully, the 21-year-old’s comments will finally put to bed the circle of Premier League teams hunting his signature; if he’s not desperate to leave why bother convincing him to do so?

It’s always nice to keep a homegrown talent at the club and Gordon is one of the best to ever come out of the youth ranks at Goodison, there’s no need to cash in on him just yet.
