Everton must get ‘as many points’ possible before World Cup break – Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard believes Everton must get “as many points” as possible before the start of the FIFA World Cup in the Premier League.

The mega-event will be played from November 20 to December 18 in Qatar and for that, teams will have a mid-season break.

Lampard was quoted in a report by the Independent where he stated the importance of securing as many points possible from the next eight matches, which according to him is like a “mini-league”.

“We need to get as many points as we can in the eight games we’ve got before the break for the World Cup,” he said. “It is like a mini-league.

“We went into an international break having beaten West Ham, which gave us a good feeling. Mentally, I feel we’re in a good place.

“It’s exciting for us, to see how many points we can get in these eight games to get ourselves in a good position for when we start again.”

Correct approach

Everton’s season started on a much more positive note than how the team performed the last season where they narrowly avoided relegation.

However, despite those good performances, the Toffees have only managed to secure seven points from as many matches, which included four draws, two defeats and just a solitary win against West Ham.

The only thing that will be concerning for Lampard would be the side’s inability to secure a positive result despite playing well as they lost points on more than one occasion already despite taking a lead.

The former Derby manager will be aware that is not acceptable to survive in a tough competition like the Premier League and he will be pushing his players to produce better and more consistent performances in the matches to come.

Next up for the Merseyside club is a trip to Southampton against whom they’ve only won once in the last five meetings in the Premier League at the Saint Mary’s Stadium [Transfermarkt].
