Alisher Usmanov clarity wanted as Everton takeover twist already named

The Premier League and UK Government will want to check that any sale funds from a potential Everton takeover will not benefit Alisher Usmanov, according to Ben Jacobs.

It has been reported that Farhad Moshiri is in talks to sell the Toffees to Maciek Kaminski and his KAM Sports brand, with £400million being mentioned, although that fee has been challenged.

KAM Sports also want clarity over where potential funds would go, but it is shared that it shouldn’t be a significant hurdle given that Everton and Moshiri severed ties with Usmanov months ago.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Jacobs shared how previous relationships could complicate or just slow things down in the coming weeks and months.

“Another minor factor, that could potentially delay matters if things progress, is where exactly the sale funds will go,” he wrote.

“It is believed, following the Chelsea takeover, the Premier League and UK Government will want to check there is no benefit to Alisher Usmanov.

“This is not thought to be a significant hurdle, since Everton & Moshiri severed ties with Usmanov. But for peace of mind & full transparency, am told KAM Sports want clarity over where the funds will end up & it is very possible other third-parties will seek the same assurances.”

No Benefit.

It has been a whirlwind few months at Goodison Park.

From questions surrounding Moshirir and his work to the owner publically coming out and asking to be judged later before, in fairness, pulling it out of the bag in the transfer window.

All of that money spent has done nothing to deter these takeover rumours though, with news finally breaking again that Kaminski was still in talks over a deal.

Moshiri made it no secret he would welcome investment, but seemed against a full sale, even when Peter Kenyon and John Thornton were involved earlier this year.

Usmanov was a big money-earner for the club, which is no secret given his multiple sponsors and the naming rights deal he had in place for the new stadium.

They have gone now and Moshiri rightly severed ties with him, with those deals slowly being replaced but in a smart manner that can bring good windfall.

This should be no issue hopefully, with Everton acting swiftly to distance themselves from Usmanov months ago.
