Everton duo made important gesture to Kyle John in unseen moment v Southampton

Everton secured back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they came from a goal behind to beat Southampton at St Mary’s.

In a blitz of goals at the start of the second half, Conor Coady and then Dwight McNeil found the net for the Toffees to send the travelling Evertonians wild on the South Coast.

But there was a special day for academy youngster Kyle John who appeared on the bench for the first time in a Premier League game to cover for Seamus Coleman at right-back with Nathan Patterson injured.

In the first half, he headed out to warm up on the sidelines but two of the Everton substitutes opted to provide support for the youngster and join him in the warm up.

Anthony Gordon and Tom Davies, two Finch Farm graduates themselves, hopped off the bench to offer the hypothetical arm around the shoulder and make it seem a much less lonely place, as the Liverpool Echo share.

Standards

Gordon and Davies are not senior players at Goodison Park by any means but this shows a great amount of maturity from both players and Frank Lampard should put them on a pedestal.

To be a successful side, everybody needs to be pulling in the same direction at the same time and that means helping out your fellow players when they need it.

A Premier League game is a daunting prospect for a young person and it can feel lonely when you go out to warm up in front of 30,000 people and it shows a lot of courage to opt to do so yourself before being joined by two others.

John might not have played a minute to make his debut against Southampton but to be involved in the squad for such a game will have been a fantastic experience for him.

Lampard will have taken note of the way his fellow Finch Farm graduates reacted to what he did from the bench and they could get rewarded in due course.
