Jeff Stelling hails Everton defender Conor Coady v Southampton
Jeff Stelling has hailed Conor Coady as a “goal machine” after he netted for Everton in the 2-1 win over Southampton in the Premier League at St Mary’s.
After a dull stalemate first half, the game was suddenly brought to alive when Joe Aribio scored for the home side after the break with a brilliant effort with his left foot.
The lead was short-lived as Coady scored from close range quickly. Dwight McNeil scored the other goal as Frank Lampard’s side picked up all three points.
“Conor Coady. Goal Machine,” Stelling said on Sky Sports.
“Got four Premier League goals last season. He’s on the mark this season.”
Terrific
One of the biggest criticisms against Frank Lampard is that his record away from home is very poor.
Lampard will be aiming to change that perception and wins as these would certainly help.
The Toffees are brimming in confidence at the moment. Prior to the game, they were on a five-game unbeaten run, and one could see that the players were refusing to wilt under pressure.

It also shows that there are now strong leaders and characters in the team, and Coady is definitely being one of them. He leads by example and has been immense for the club alongside James Tarkowski.
Last season, we saw many times that the Toffees almost give up whenever they concede the first goal. It was Everton’s first away Premier League win since February 2020 at Watford after they conceded first.
The new signings have definitely made an impact. Like Coady, Dwight McNeil also opened his scoring account since joining the club in the summer.
