Everton transfer target Ben Brereton Diaz to step up contract talks with Blackburn Rovers

Everton transfer target Ben Brereton Diaz will have to finalise his decision on whether he wants to stay at Blackburn or leave the club in January, according to Rovers’ Director of football Gregg Broughton.

Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett reported on deadline day that Everton had made a late move for the Blackburn forward, however, they were unsuccessful in doing so.

Broughton acknowledged that there will be “ongoing negotiations” between the forward and the Championship club in the coming months.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, the Blackburn chief confessed that the situation will have “some clarity” sooner rather than later.

“We have to have ongoing negotiations with Ben and his representatives about what they see their future going, does he want to be playing in the Premier League, does he want to explore some of the many options I’m sure he’d have to play in other places in Europe as well,” he said.

“We wanted Ben to come through this international window before we started those again and those will go on over the next few weeks and then hopefully we’ll have some clarity over that situation.”

Everton

No doubt.

There’s no doubt that Everton will try to sign Brereton Diaz once again when the transfer window reopens and it seems contract squabbles may be in the Blues favour.

The 23-year-old Chilean is exactly what Frank Lampard craves for his team up top and he can add a different dimension to the Toffees lackluster attack.

Neal Maupay has had a solid start to life at Goodison Park, but its doubtful that he can carry the forward line on his shoulders for the whole season, especially considering Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s woeful injury record.

This leaves the door firmly open for Lampard to make a move for a striker in January and the Chilean fits the bill for the kind of player he wants.

Solomon Rondon leaving the club this week further confirms this and suggests Everton are readying themselves to bring in a new poacher.

It remains to be seen if the Toffees will make a bid, nevertheless, all the indications are pointing towards them doing so.
