Everton one of two Premier League sides where Hirving Lozano could play next season

Everton are still on the trail of Mexican international winger Hirving Lozano and his agent believes he will leave Napoli this summer.

The Toffees were briefly interested in the Napoli ace but opted not to further pursue a deal over the summer while Manchester United also expressed an interest.

Alessandro Monfrecola, Lozano’s agent, admitted on local radio that it was between Goodison Park and Old Trafford for his next club although other options could not be ruled out yet.

“Lozano? He still hasn’t expressed his full potential,” he said, as quoted by Gonfialarete. “Only in a small part when Gattuso was there. Then later he causes injuries and other things he has not yet expressed himself.

“In Mexico, he is considered an idol and when he doesn’t feel like one. In my opinion, Lozano will leave next June, also because he earns over 4 million (£3.5million) at Napoli. Even though he is delighted to be here, he has never hidden that he aspires to the top English clubs even if now he is probably realizing that Napoli itself is a top club.

“He has never hidden that he loves Barcelona and Real Madrid, but unless Ancelotti falls in love with him again, he has no market. I think he can join Manchester United side or Everton. This does not exclude that other English teams can enter the negotiation. My personal prediction is that he will go away in June, but he feels great here.”

Worth a go

If there is one position where an improvement could realistically be made in the Everton side it would be on the wing where none of Anthony Gordon, Demarai Gray or Dwight McNeil have managed to nail down their starting spot.

Gordon, an England Under-21 international, is probably the best of the trio but not by enough to ensure that he starts every game as he was benched for the trip to Southampton.

McNeil was one of Frank Lampard’s big-money summer signings so perhaps hasn’t had the run of games he needs to assert himself properly and Gray, while showing glimpses of class, has not been the game-changer people were hoping for.

Lozano may be the answer to the problems by coming in on the left flank and being the electrifying speedster that Everton are lacking at the moment.

He won’t put up numbers to rival the likes of Mohamed Salah or Phil Foden but he will scare the life out of defenders and that might be enough.
