Ray Parlour predicts Manchester United to beat Everton at Goodison Park

Ray Parlour has backed Manchester United to beat Everton 2-1 this weekend at Goodison Park and inflict the Toffees’ first defeat in seven games.

Everton head into the fixture in fine form with the best defensive record in the Premier League, whilst Manchester United are coming off a heavy defeat to Manchester City.

However, Parlour feels that Erik ten Hag’s side will get back to winning ways at Goodison Park on Sunday evening [9 October].

Everton

Talking on talkSPORT Breakfast [07:43, 7 October], Parlour said: “Everton have really turned it around and Frank Lampard has got them having a real go. Goodison Park will be rocking at the weekend.

“Manchester United are coming off a nightmare result against City. I am tempted to go Everton to win the game but I am going to go Manchester United 2-1 with Marcus Rashford to score.”

Bit harsh

Everton head into this fixture in better form than United and with a packed Goodison Park behind them, there is no reason why they can’t go on to pick up three points against ten Hag’s men. United have shown their fragile underbelly this season and that is something Everton could exploit.

If Lampard’s side can remain rigid in their defensive structure and limit United to very few chances then they should stand a good chance of picking up a positive result. James Tarkowski and Conor Coady will be vital to Everton’s chances of inflicting United’s second defeat on the spin.

Everton

Coady in particular has been superb since his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers and could be set to join the Toffees for just £4.5million next summer [The Telegraph, 5 October].

This promises to be an intriguing encounter, with a win set to take Everton above United and potentially into the top half of the table. This is by no means going to be a walk in the park for the ten Hag’s team.
