Sam Matterface: Everton could steal a point against Manchester United at Goodison Park

Sam Matterface has backed Everton to draw 1-1 with Manchester United on Sunday evening in their next Premier League fixture.

The Toffees head into the game with the best defensive record in the Premier League and are undefeated in seven matches under Frank Lampard.

Matterface feels that they could well be troubled by the likes of Marcus Rashford, but still says they will have enough to avoid defeat.

Everton

Talking on talkSPORT Breakfast [07:43, 7 October], Matterface said: “I felt alone in the summer suggesting that Frank Lampard was doing the right things, but now they’re seven unbeaten with the best defence in the Premier League it’s a bit less lonely.

“Manchester United missed chances on Thursday night and Marcus Rashford played well and must start, if he does then the Everton defence might be troubled.

“I think Tarkowski and Coady have been brilliant so far so I am going to go 1-1, with Everton to get a point and Martial to score.”

Good result

For Everton to maintain their defensive record and continue their unbeaten run against United will be a good result for Lampard’s men. Regardless of Manchester United’s torrid result last week, they’re a side with plenty of quality, that can hurt any team.

A full Goodison Park will prove a hostile environment for the Red Devils and it will be interesting to see if ten Hag’s side crumble under an intense atmosphere, much like they did against Manchester City last time out. James Tarkowski and Conor Coady will be vital to Everton’s hopes of a positive result.

Everton

A solid base will put the Toffees in an excellent position to really hurt United’s sometimes fragile defence. Everton’s more physical players must look to target Lisandro Martinez, who has been exposed at times in the 2022/23 season.

Amadou Onana’s late runs into the box could prove too much of an aerial threat to United’s backline and should be something the Toffees look to deploy.
