Everton eye move for Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin

Everton are eyeing a move for Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin, according to a report from The Telegraph.

The 27-year-old will soon become a free agent in December at the end of the domestic season.

The former Chelsea academy keeper has had spells in English academies but he has never played any senior football in English leagues.

The goalkeeper established himself as No 1 with Glimt and he played in the Champions League as well. He also won one league title with the Norwegian club.

Smart decision

The Toffees could be looking to sign a new goalkeeper, mainly as a back-up for Jordan Pickford.

Asmir Begovic has been the second-choice goalkeeper at Goodison Park this season he has until the end of the year left on his present deal.

Begovic has done extremely well for the Toffees whenever he has been called upon, and it remains to be seen if the Toffees offers him a new deal at the club.

Haikin could be a smart signing for the Toffees. First of all, he would come as a free agent, and the player would grab the opportunity to play in the Premier League.

Secondly, his age. At 27, he can be a long-term signing for the club, considering that goalkeepers usually have long careers. If he does well, Frank Lampard will have a reliable deputy.

Most importantly, he has got loads of experience. He completed his schooling in English football but played all his life elsewhere. He has got Champions League experience, and played in the famous win over Roma last season.
