Sky Sports pundit hypes Demarai Gray to become really dangerous for Everton

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Demarai Gray is sure to be working on the Everton training ground with manager Frank Lampard to add the “last bit of craft” to his game says Kevin Campbell.

In the 2-1 win at Southampton on 1 October the former Leicester City winger was at the heart of nearly everything the Toffees did going forward, but too often wasn’t able to apply the finishing touches that matched his prior work.

Sky Sports pundit Campbell feels that his approach play is “sometimes incredible” and that if he can master the final elements in training he can be a “really dangerous” player for Everton.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he assessed the winger, saying: “The end product, the last ball, the last shot – we’ve seen him score some great goals – but that’s something he’s got to work on, that’s for sure.

“He’s still a young player, but really if he could add that last bit of craft to his sometimes incredible approach play he would be a really, really dangerous player for Everton.

“He’ll be working on it with Frank Lampard because Lampard picks him and sees what he can do, so I’m sure it’s something that he’ll be working on on the training ground.”

As one of the bargain buys brought in since the spending at Goodison reduced significantly Gray is an effective and value-for-money addition.

But if his finishing and his final pass could be sharpened up he would advance up to similar levels as teammate Anthony Gordon to give Lampard an enviable pair of wide options.

While he still has time to kick on at 26, he is at an age where he should be hitting his prime, so if he isn’t able to make the step up soon it might always remain tantalisingly out of reach.
