Journalist raves about Everton trio that have handed Frank Lampard a ‘real bonus’

Journalist Dean Jones piled praise on the midfield trio at Everton and suggested they have “big potential” under Frank Lampard.

After surviving a relegation scrap last season, Lampard moved quickly in the summer to bring in new players and build on the club’s momentum.

The Toffees now sit comfortably in mid-table and boast the best defensive record in the Premier League. Much of the side’s good form is down to the new-look midfield at Goodison Park.

Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye joined the Toffees in the summer, while Alex Iwobi has been transformed into a magnificent midfielder by Lampard.

That trio were lauded for their impact at Goodison by Jones, who told GiveMeSport: “I think they really complement each other and that’s been a real bonus for Lampard coming into this job.

“There’s big potential for them.”

Balance

Lampard may be fairly new to management and is still learning on the job, but if there’s one thing he knows how to do it’s organising a midfield.

The Chelsea and England legend was one of the world’s best midfielders during his playing days, and his knowledge of the position has clearly translated in his management style.

The 44-year-old was the one who spotted Iwobi’s potential and converted him to midfield. Plus, Lampard made some hard decisions to offload players at Everton and replace them with his own targets.

Onana in particular has looked brilliant since swapping Lille for Liverpool, and at 21 years old he has plenty of room for growth.

Gueye slots in just in front of the Toffees back four, and altogether the trio complement each other fabulously. Lampard deserves credit for constructing such a resilient yet creative midfield, and hopefully, he’s found a trio ready to commit to a long-term stay at the club.
