Three men key in convincing Amadou Onana to sign for Everton

Amadou Onana has been a revelation in the Everton midfield this season and he has revealed the key men who convinced him to join.

The Belgian international had a choice of either The Toffees or West Ham United but opted to make Merseyside his next destination after careful consideration with his elder sister.

The 21-year-old had plenty of intel on Everton before signing on the dotted line having spoken to two countrymen with a close connection to the club.

Everton

“The connection between Everton and Belgian players has always been great,” he said to The Times. “I spoke to Big Rom [Romelu Lukaku] and he was like, ‘You’ll enjoy it there, the atmosphere, fans.’ I spoke to Roberto [Martínez], who had a great time here.

“And last but not least I spoke to the manager [Lampard], who played one of the biggest parts in my decision. He was calling me every day.

“Whatever I needed, he was there for me and he’s still doing that, which I appreciate because I’ve had several managers but not always great human beings, and he’s a great human being.”

Agent Lukaku

Lukaku had a wonderful time at Goodison Park and had it not been for the dreams Manchester United sold him, he may have stayed longer than he did.

If the giant striker says this is where you want to go then you don’t argue with him and go with it which has worked tremendously in Lampard’s favour on this occasion.

Onana is such a refreshing player to have on side because his sheer presence and power in the middle of the field is scary for any midfielder that dares to challenge him head-on.

It may have taken him a game or two to settle in the Premier League, as it does for all normal players, but with patience comes performance.

The Everton midfield just would not look right if he wasn’t there to offer an endless engine of box-to-box running and with every game, his stock rises considerably for any future buyers.
