Dion Dublin calls out Everton on sloppy play in loss against Manchester United
Match of the Day pundit Dion Dublin has called Everton out on their sloppy play in the club’s 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United on Sunday evening.
Everton’s performance was lacklustre at times with both of Manchester United’s goals coming from mistakes made by the Blues midfield.
Dublin admitted that Everton have the tendency to switch off and become a little bit “sloppy” which ultimately leads to errors and defeats for Frank Lampard’s side.

“I like Everton when they get it right, but a lot of the time they do this, they seem to just switch off and become a little bit sloppy in the middle of the park,” said Dublin speaking on MOTD 2 (9 September 38:12).
“They did it time and time again, there are four players there, nobodies talking again, and then they start to panic.
“What I was told as a young boy was pass the ball on pass the time on, that means if you pass the ball quickly your teammates got a bit more time.”

Dublin right.
To be fair to Dublin, he’s completely correct on this one, Everton were their own worst enemy yesterday and the sloppy mistakes leading to goals ultimately lost them the game.
Maybe Blues were getting a bit ahead of themselves on the team’s recent good form, there is still a long way to go but yesterday’s performance was still a positive one.
The introduction of James Garner into the Blues midfield may help to sure up the sloppiness shown yesterday and that’s something to look forward to as the season progresses.
Also, Lampard’s side actually looks like they want to win games this season and at the end of the day it’s this kind of fight fans have been screaming out for, for what seems like an eternity.
United was always going to be a tough game, but if anything, the fixture showed the Toffees can mix it with the big spenders of the Premier League when needed.
