Everton ‘stopped playing’ after 20 minutes v Manchester United – Frank Leboeuf

Frank Leboeuf believes Everton “stopped playing” which made it easier for Manchester United to secure a win on Sunday, 09 October.

The Toffees suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Red Devils at Goodison Park in their matchday nine fixture of the Premier League.

While talking to ESPN FC, the French World Cup winner stated that despite a good start from the home team, only Alex Iwobi managed to maintain the level required to face a team like United.

“Good start from Everton but suddenly they stopped playing,” he said. “They dropped dramatically and after 20 minutes, they didn’t exist.

“It was a good performance from Manchester United but you cannot say it was a fantastic one as Everton just stopped playing after 20 minutes.

“I love Iwobi but he is the only one at a good level but the rest of the team, dropped, didn’t play, got a little bit sloppy I would say.”

Bad result

Everton came into Sunday’s fixture hoping to win three league matches in a row for the first time in more than a year.

But a defeat on the night, while playing at home, will be a severe blow to the team who are eager to improve on what they did last season.

The most concerning thing for Frank Lampard will be to see how his team crumbled, despite taking an early lead, courtesy of a sublime finish from Iwobi in the fifth minute.

The fans will be hoping that the former Derby manager will be able to get things right in the future and ensure that his players will be able to defend a lead, especially against the big teams.

A potential problem is that things are unlikely to get any easier for the Merseyside club as next up will be a trip to third-placed Tottenham Hotspur who have won all four of their matches on home soil.
