Owen Hargreaves raves about Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi

Owen Hargreaves has hailed Alex Iwobi’s goal as “fantastic” as Everton suffered a 2-1 defeat against Manchester United on Sunday (9 October) at Goodison Park.

Iwobi scored the opening goal for the Toffees, but goals from Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo earned all three points for the visitors.

The Toffees tried hard to restore and had an effort from James Garner in the dying moments of the game by David de Gea.

“It’s a fantastic finish. Under Frank Lampard, he is being fantastic. He’s got great energy in midfield. If he can add goals to his game, he would be undroppable,” said Hargreaves on Premier League Tv Production on 9 October.

Improved

Iwobi has been playing exceptionally well under Frank Lampard and the goal will enhance his confidence.

Only a few months back, there were doubts about his long-term future at the club.

However, he has been completely transformed under Lampard. Using his versatility as a weapon, from being an ineffective winger, Lampard initially used him in the wing-back roles.

After he put in some good performances, his confidence rose, and he is now one of the first names on the team sheet. He has been brilliant in midfield, bringing his energy and physicality to the side.

Despite the defeat, there are plenty of positives Lampard can draw from this game. Dominic Calvert-Lewin also returned to action, and Lampard will be hoping that he gets back to his old scoring form at the earliest.

Everton tried to exploit the United defence with set-pieces, but they just couldn’t hit the target. Another thing that has been frustrating to see was that Lampard’s side were starved of possession for long periods, and when they got the ball, they misplaced it on many ocassions. It hampered their flow after a bright start.
