Everton boss Frank Lampard reveals Dominic Calvert-Lewin isn’t taking part in every training session

Everton boss Frank Lampard has revealed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin isn’t involved in every training session at the moment, despite returning from injury.

Calvert-Lewin featured in Sunday evening’s 3-1 defeat at home to Manchester United but failed to provide the Toffees with the comeback needed to win.

Lampard admitted that the striker isn’t “taking part in every part of training” and the club will assess over the coming weeks how to get the forward to the next step.

“He is not taking part in every part of training,” said Lampard as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“We will have to see over the days and weeks how we get him to that optimum level.”

Everton

Bad.

This doesn’t scream the kind of statement you want to hear from your manager regarding a striker who has just come back from injury after a long spell on the sidelines.

You’d of thought with Calvert-Lewin’s cameo appearance against Manchester United that he would be potentially ready for a start against Tottenham on Saturday evening.

Nevertheless, Lampard’s comments seem to indicate that the forward is way off the pace of making a solid stint in Everton’s first XI.

There comes a point where you have to cut your losses and as good as Calvert-Lewin has been at times for the Blues his ongoing injury issues are unreliable, to say the least.

The January transfer window provides the Toffees with a chance to invest in a new forward, one they can rely on to line up alongside summer signing Neal Maupay.

Blackburn’s Ben Brereton Diaz is a potential contender that springs to mind, he’d provide Lampard with the poaching prowess Everton currently lack.
