Finance Expert: Everton takeover could happen in 6-12 months if background work already done

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Everton could easily be taken over in the next 6-12 months if the Jeffrey Soros-fronted SPAC, LAMF, have done their due diligence and background work already.

The Finance Expert admitted that the new stadium could be a sticking point, but if legroom has been done, the timescale could be realistic.

An 18-24 month timeline was said to be put on an takeover in November 2021 after $253million [£225.9m] was raised in an initial public offering [Bloomberg].

“If you look at that in terms of the total time period, albeit we’re nearly a year in,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“18-24 months is enough time to buy a football club, that’s assuming that what has happened over the past year is some very stringent due diligence behind the scenes that we’re not aware of from the outside looking in.

“If all of that has been conducted and you’ve done the leg work, then there is a suggestion that a deal could go through in the next 6-12 months, that’s assuming the leg work has been done.

“The stadium for Everton puts a spanner in the works there, that is a tricky one, but 18-24 months is enough for a deal, assuming over the past year there have been some background checks that have been sorted already. If you’re coming at this cold, 6-12 months is sometimes a little bit tight so you have to factor in what has been done previously.”

Nothing is said to be advanced in this potential takeover bid, so that timescale immediately becomes unlikely.

With Maciek Kaminski also in the mix alongside Soros, that also complicates matters further.

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has shared that the first of those two still need more due diligence on the losses and liabilities at the club, so that adds another shadow.

If one thing is for sure, this was never going to be straightforward.
